August 23, 2012 — The Salt Lake City Police Department seeks at least 25 applicants in order to host its next Citizens Academy, a three-day class that provides an inside look at the job of a police officer.

Class will take place Monday, September 17, 6–9 p.m.; Tuesday, September 18, 6–9 p.m.; and Saturday, September 22, 8 a.m.–noon.

Instructors will cover the structure of the department and unit responsibilities, as well as run attendees through PRISM scenarios and use-of-force options just like new recruits. Hands-on opportunities will include a K9 apprehension demonstration, hands-on Laser/Radar enforcement with the Motors Unit, and firearms shooting with SWAT.

But first, you’ve got to apply! The Police Department’s Training Unit will fill available seats in the order they are received as long as applicants are:

• at least 18 years of age,

• live or work in Salt Lake City proper,

• and pass a basic background check.
