Chief’s Message: Holiday Safety

December 7, 2012PSAs focus on the dangers of drug use, abuse
December 6, 2012 — Thanks to support from the Salt Lake Film Society, five top entries from the Salt Lake City Police Department’s annual Student Art Contest and scholarship program are “now playing” between films at the society’s Broadway Centre Cinemas.
“Exhibiting this artwork is a great complement to the Salt Lake Film Society’s slate of programming, which is aimed at getting people talking about the tough issues we face in our community and as a civil society,” said Tori Baker, executive director. “And to be able to support young artists at the same time is even better,” she added.
With as many as 240 film screenings each week across seven screens, the Film Society’s support will place the public service announcements before many more people than previous SLCPD awareness campaigns. It will also be easier to update the PSAs with fresh content throughout the year.
“The Salt Lake Film Society is an answer to an ongoing challenge for the art contest – how to get the good artwork of students, with this important anti-drug message, showcased before as many people as possible,” said Chief Chris Burbank. “We are grateful for this support from the community.”
