March 25, 2013March 22, 2013 — The Salt Lake City Police Department today remembers the loss of one its own: Detective David W. Olson, who died March 22, 1980, from injuries sustained as a result of performing his duty.
Detective David W. Olson joined the police department in October 1971. A combat veteran of the Vietnam War, Olson served the Department in Patrol, K-9 and Special Investigations. He was known to his close friends as “Hagar.”
In the early morning hours of April 3, 1977, Olson, while in the performance of his duties, was accidentally wounded. As a result, he was unable to return to active duty and died March 22, 1980.
