April 17, 2013Various ways to share information with police
April 16, 2013 — The Salt Lake City Police Department reminds the public of the various ways to share information with the police Department, in light of security concerns during the SLC Marathon Saturday.
“The 2002 Olympics provided law enforcement agencies along the Wasatch Front extensive experience at balancing security and access to large sporting events,” said Chief Chris Burbank. “Agencies involved in providing security during Saturday’s Salt Lake City Marathon are working cooperatively to assess the situation and respond accordingly.
“What we need most from the public is their support in providing specific information about suspicious activity they may see along the 26.2-miles of the course,” he said. “If you see something, say something.”
There are four ways to contact police, based on the nature of the information the public wishes to share with law enforcement:
- In an emergency, call 911.
- If not an emergency, call (801) 799-3000.
- To share tips and photos anonymously, text the keywords TIPSLCPD and MARATHON plus information to CRIMES (274637). To access this service online, please visit https://www.tipsubmit.com/webtipsstart.aspx.
- Email specific tips and photos to slcmarathon@slcgov.com. This email will only be active through the end of Saturday’s marathon.
Contact: Reporters seeking comment should contact the Public Information Officer at 801.799.NEWS (6397).
