SALT LAKE CITY — Robbery investigators and financial institutions will meet at the Public Safety Building Tuesday, February 25, to discuss the increasing number of bank robberies in the Salt Lake Valley.
The number of cases rose from 26 in 2012 to 70 in the Salt Lake Valley last year. In Salt Lake City, there have been 10 bank robberies since the first of the year, compared to five during the same period in 2013.
“The numbers alone don’t tell us why bank robberies are on the rise across the valley,” said Police Chief Chris Burbank. “This meeting will allow investigators and bankers to share confidential information and come up with some solutions.”
The Bank Safety Summit will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, with subject matter experts available to reporters prior to the event.
Financial institutions interested in attending the summit should contact the police department.
