SALT LAKE CITY – Approximately 600 books will be given to light and non-readers as part of Salt Lake City’s World Book Night celebration this week.

Leading this second annual project is Salt Lake City’s Mayor’s Office, Police and Fire Departments, the Homeless Outreach Service Team (HOST), and the City Library. Two events mark World Book Night in Salt Lake City this year:

• Book convoy,  Tuesday, April 22, 3 p.m., SLC Police and Fire Departments will pick up the 600 books that have arrived at The King’s English, 1511 S. 1500 E., for World Book Night. The convoy will deliver the books to the City Library, 210 E. 400 S.

• WBN Kick-off, Wednesday, April 23, 10 a.m., all volunteers will gather at the City Library, to select the books they’d like to give away during World Book Night. They may also choose from a list of partner-sites where they can give the books to light- and non-readers.

Salt Lake City has chosen to participate in World Book NightthroughHOST, a partnership designed to connect various service providers with people experiencing homelessness in our community. City staff and community volunteers will visit clients at various service sites, including the Salt Lake City School District Community Learning Centers, Crossroads Urban Center, Fourth Street Clinic, Palmer Court, Sorenson Unity Center, the Heartland Youth Center and other locations.
