SALT LAKE CITY — Chief Burbank uses his February video message to talk about the Student Art and Scholarship Contest. It is a fun event to share an anti-drug message and promote higher education among young people with the theme this year being “Stay Clean in 2015”.
The Contest gives school Student Resource officers the opportunity to engage the students in anti-drug conversation. SLCPD is in the eighth year of it’s Student Art Contest which is open to all students attending a high school located within the boundaries of Salt Lake City. This year, the department is offering two $2,500 college scholarships and other electronic devices to top entries!
Burbank says, “More important than coming from me, or one of my officers telling students to avoid drugs and the harmful side effects of them, is the message that comes from the students themselves, a peer to peer message.”
The Chief ends the video with a direct appeal to students to participate in the Student Art Contest, “The winning entries will be used to create the department’s anti-drug message on our webpage and throughout the community.” Watch the full video online at www.police.slc.gov or YouTube.com/slcpd.
