SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the City released the Civilian Review Board’s “Investigation Report” about the officer-involved critical incident that occurred at Rio Grande on February 27, 2016. The CRB panel found that this matter is in the public eye and recommended the report be made public. After reviewing the facts and circumstances and weighing the interests favoring public access, the City agrees.

The Salt Lake City Police Department benefits from access to multiple outside investigations and expert opinions in circumstances involving officer-involved critical incidents. Additionally, the CRB provides civilian review and makes recommendations to the Chief of Police on police investigations and certain complaints. All perspectives are taken into consideration on a case-by-case basis to make the best determination of whether an officer acted within Police Department policy.

The Department values and takes seriously all input, which helps us implement suggestions and training that benefit our employees and the community we serve.  This helps us, the women and men of your Police Department, constantly adapt and improve to serve Salt Lake City.
