Dude, Where’s My Car: Police Caution About Car Theft During Summer Months

SALT LAKE CITY — During summer time, Police see an increase in car thefts. On Sunday, July 22, in the space of three hours, officers found four occupied stolen vehicles, two motorcycles and two cars. All four cases resulted in the car thieves being booked into jail.

It is important to take steps to prevent being a victim of car theft. The Salt Lake Police would like to remind the public that leaving your car running or leaving your keys in the vehicle increase the chances of your vehicle being stolen. Lock your doors. Don’t cool down your vehicle unattended in the summer months. Use anti-theft devices for older model vehicles. Don’t be lured into a false sense of security with newer vehicles and FOBS, if your car is running, it can be stolen. Don’t leave a spare key in the vehicle – this can turn a car prowl into a car theft.
