SLCPD Investigating Critical Injury Crash in Rose Park
SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a crash that left a male in his 30s with critical injuries.
SLCPD officers responded to the intersection of 1000 North and Redwood Road around 7:30 a.m. on October 16, 2021 after SLC911 received calls about a crash involving a pickup and a pedestrian.
Officers and firefighters provided immediate first aid on scene. Paramedics transported the victim to an area hospital in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation shows the crash occurred when the truck driver was traveling south on Redwood Road and was making a left turn to go east on 1000 North as the victim crossed 1000 North. It appears the victim was in the crosswalk when struck. Investigators are working to determine who had the right-of-way.
The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The Crash Analysis Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to assist with the investigation.
At this time, no identities are being released. No arrests have been made, but this remains an on-going investigation.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer aided drawing programs.
The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.
All road closures have been lifted and the on-scene investigation has concluded.
