SLCPD Investigate Burglary at West High School, One Person Arrested
SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly burglarizing West High School.
This investigation started at 11:55 p.m. on January 20, 2022, when patrol officers received information about a man wearing a light gray jacket trying to break into the school’s office.
The person reporting the information could see the suspect on video using the school’s security system.
Within a minute of receiving the 9-1-1 call, officers began heading to the scene. Once officers arrived, they secured the area and started looking for the suspect who was last seen on the west side of the high school.
Given the size of the building, officers requested additional units to assist with searching the building.
It appears the suspect made entry through a door he pried open and tried accessing the school’s office with a tool and then left the area.
While searching the building, officers located the suspect, and a short foot pursuit began.
Officers quickly and safely arrested the suspect, later identified as Vladimir Munson.
Officers booked Munson into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Theft, and Failure to Stop for an Officer.
Forensic evidence technicians assigned to the SLCPD Crime Lab Unit responded to assist with the investigation.
A representative from the Salt Lake City School District also responded to help officers. It is estimated the suspect caused $5,000 in damage to the building.
Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
No further information is available for release.
