SLCPD Patrol Officers Arrest Suspect in Aggravated Assault

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department has arrested a 30-year-old man who is accused of cutting a woman’s throat inside her residence in what appears to be a random attack.

This investigation started just before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday February 6, 2022, when officers responded to 850 South West Temple Street after receiving information about a woman bleeding heavily. The on-scene incident commander notified SLCPD detectives who immediately responded to assist with the investigation.

Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition where she received emergency surgery. Doctors upgraded the victim’s condition to critical but stable.

There are no further updates available on the victim’s condition.

Working with the SLCPD’s Crime Lab and CompStat & Analysis Unit, detectives with the SLCPD’s Robbery Squad identified 30-year-old Eric Jones as the suspect in this case.

During the investigation, the victim told SLCPD she let the suspect inside her residence so he could shower. The woman described the suspect as being homeless.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on February 11, 2022, SLCPD patrol officers located Jones near 130 South 500 East and later booked him into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of Aggravated Assault, which is connected to an outstanding warrant.

No additional information on this case is being released at this time. SLCPD detectives are continuing their investigation.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The victim in this case is requesting privacy. The Salt Lake City Police Department is requesting that media refrain from contacting her.
