SLCPD Arrest Man in Stolen Vehicle, Assaults Officer
SALT LAKE CITY — Today, officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department arrested a 28-year-old man accused of possessing a stolen vehicle and assaulting an officer.
This investigation started at 8:05 a.m. on April 20, 2022 when patrol officers spotted a suspicious vehicle, later determined to be stolen, in a hotel parking lot near 1900 West North Temple Street.
Officers approached the vehicle and attempted to take the driver, later identified as Hung Nguyen, into custody but he refused to comply. While officers took Nguyen into custody, he assaulted one of the officers, causing a physical injury. Officers used a TASER and successfully took Nguyen into custody without further use-of-force.
Nguyen was not injured.
One officer suffered a minor injury and was treated and released from a local hospital.
Officers transported Nguyen to the Salt Lake County Metro Jail where he was booked on charges of: Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Restricted Person, Failure to Stop at the Command of a Police Officer, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Interference with Arresting Officer.
A photo taken on scene is being released.
Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
There is no other information to release at this time.
