SLCPD Arrest Man After Fight Leads to Shooting
SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department arrested a 46-year-old man after a shooting injured one person.
This investigation started at approximately 7:30 p.m. on May 23, 2022, when SLC911 received information about a person with a weapon at a business located in the 3100-block of West Professional Circle.
As officers responded, they received additional information that someone at the business had fired several rounds from a handgun. Surveillance video shows the suspect shooting all four tires belonging to the victim’s vehicle.
Officers arrived, secured the area and located a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg. The injury was very minor and the victim did not require medical attention.
During the investigation, officers learned the name of the suspect and began searching the area.
Around 9:30 p.m., the suspect, 46-year-old Esekielu Tuigamala, turned himself into SLCPD.
Detectives booked Tuigamala into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of Aggravated Assault, Felony Discharge of a Firearm, and Criminal Mischief.
The preliminary investigation shows the two people involved in the shooting knew each other and had a prior argument, which resulted in the fight and shooting.
No other injuries were reported.
An SLCPD Crime Lab technician responded to the scene to process, document and collect evidence.
Two photos taken on the scene are being released.
There is no further information to release.
Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
