SLCPD Provides Update to Briar Rose Place Shooting Investigation

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad is continuing to investigate a shooting that killed one person, wounded two others and resulted in a fourth person being hit with a gun.

The identity and age of the person killed is not being released pending confirmation and next-of-kin-notification.

The other two gunshot victims are an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old man. Doctors have since upgraded both to serious condition.

The third person injured during this incident is a 21-year-old man. During the incident, someone hit him with a gun.

The 21-year-old and 19-year-old have since been released from the hospital.

When SLCPD officers arrived on scene, they located a man inside an apartment unit with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers performed immediate life-saving efforts, but the man died on scene.

After the shooting, several people left the area, including the three other injured people.

Officers located a car at 1150 South Redwood Road. Officers believe the car had two injured people inside. Officers believe someone in the car waved down another driver on Redwood Road and asked for a ride to the hospital.

Officers located a second car at 60 South Redwood Road. That car had one injured person inside. Police performed life-saving efforts on that person. Paramedics transported that person to the hospital.

As previously released, this appears to be an isolated and targeted incident involving people known to each other.

The Salt Lake City Police Department can confirm the motive in this case is being investigated as an attempted robbery.

Detectives believe before the shooting, several people were inside the apartment unit when a fight broke out. During the fight, at least one firearm was used and fired.

Detectives are still working to confirm whether more than one gun was used during the incident.

The motive, relationships to everyone involved and their association to the shooting is still being investigated.

No arrests have been made.

Social workers assigned to the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Mental Health and Substance Abuse Unit responded to the scene to assist community members with emotional trauma associated with this incident.

The Salt Lake City Police Department would like to acknowledge and thank the various law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Utah Department of Public Safety’s Statewide Information and Analysis Center, who offered to provide immediate assistance and resources.

Detectives are asking that anyone with information about this shooting call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 22-106677.
