SLCPD Investigating Shooting, One Person Critically InjuredSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a shooting that critically injured a 20-year-old man. This investigation started at 5:28 a.m. on Sunday July 3, 2022 when SLC911 received multiple 9-1-1 calls about a shooting near 1485 South Major Street. When officers responded, they located one man hiding behind a car with a gunshot wound. Officers performed immediate life-saving efforts. Paramedics transported the man to the hospital in critical condition. This afternoon, doctors updated the SLCPD to advise the man is out of surgery and his condition stable. Officers arrived and located multiple crime scenes. Officers set up a large closure area to identify, preserve and collect evidence and to look for any additional victims or suspects. At this time, no arrests have been made. Based on witness statements, the shooting happened at or near a large party. Immediately after the shooting, several people, including a shooter, left the area. While on scene, officers located a vehicle and commercial building with gunshot damage. “The Salt Lake City Police Department is committed to doing everything we can to ensure the Ballpark neighborhood remains safe,” said SLCPD Chief Mike Brown. “What happened early this morning is not reflective of the Ballpark neighborhood or the people living there. The Ballpark neighborhood is one of our city’s most vibrant places to live, work and visit. I am excited about the future of this neighborhood. The people in this neighborhood deserve to feel safe. No one in our community should ever have to explain to their child that the loud popping sounds they woke up to were the sounds of gunfire.” The Salt Lake City Police Department is prioritizing efforts and resources to addressing crime in the Ballpark community. The SLCPD’s Liberty Bike Squad spends most of their patrol time in the Ballpark neighborhood to address crimes that occur and to prevent future crimes. The SLCPD’s District Community Liaison Officer is in regular contact with the Ballpark Community Council and people living and working in the neighborhood. To be more visible, the Salt Lake City Police Department has conducted patrol saturation operations in the Ballpark community to deter crime and to make contacts with the business owners and people living in the community and to find out how we can help each other. Additional operations are expected in the future. The investigation into Sunday morning’s shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information, should call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 22-124993. A SLCPD PIO responded to the scene Sunday morning to provide media and community members updates. No additional information is available for release.
