SLCPD Arrest Man After Running From Police, Crashing Car Into Another Car

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department arrested a 20-year-old man accused of operating his car in a reckless and dangerous manner by doing donuts and then running away from officers after crashing his car into another car.

This investigation started at 12:47 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, when SLC911 received information about a car being driven recklessly in the middle of the intersection of 400 East 700 South.

Responding officers found the car had crashed into a parked car. Officers spoke with the driver, identified as Devion Wormly, about the crash. During the investigation, Wormly ran away from police.

Officers set up containment in the area and a police tracking K9 responded to assist. The K9 officer and K9 located Wormly in the area of 208 East 800 South, where officers safely took him into custody without incident.

Officers booked Wormly into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of Failure to Stop at the Command of a Police Officer, Interfering with a Police Officer, Failure to Remain at the Scene of an Accident, and Driving on Left of Road When Prohibited.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is committed to traffic and roadway safety.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City , the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
