SLCPD Shooting Investigation Results in 2 Arrests, 3 Guns Being RecoveredSALT LAKE CITY — Recently, the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit arrested two people and recovered three guns as part of an ongoing investigation into an aggravated robbery. This investigation started around 11 p.m. on July 2, 2022 when SLC911 received information about an assault near 1700 West 1000 North. During the investigation, detectives learned three men robbed the victim using a gun. One of the suspects hit the victim with the gun and then shot toward the victim several times. The victim did not get shot and is recovering from the assault injuries. On July 23, 2022, officers with the SLCPD Gang Unit saw a car near 500 East 1300 South that matched the description of the car used in the July 2, 2022 aggravated robbery. The SLCPD Gang Unit came up with a safety plan to prevent the driver from taking off and to ensure community safety. Officers and detectives safely arrested 34-year-old Adrian Hugar and 22-year-old Carlos Perez-Rodriguez. During a court-authorized search of the car, detectives found three firearms – one that was stolen and one that was a sawed-off rifle. Officers booked Hugar into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of Aggravated Robbery and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Restricted Person. Officers booked Perez-Rodriguez into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Restricted Person. Photos of the firearms seized in this investigation are being released. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. No further information on this case is being released. Neither the PIO nor the On-Duty Watch Commander are available for interviews. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos. ### |
