SLCPD Requesting Help Finding SUV Involved in Deadly Hit and RunSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is asking for help finding an SUV involved in a hit and run crash where a 59-year-old man died. This investigation started at 11:04 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2022, after SLC911 received information about a man being hit by a car that drove away near 1300 South Major Street. While responding, officers received information that the SUV was described as a gold-colored GMC Suburban or Yukon. The year of the SUV is not known right now. Paramedics and officers found the man on the ground and immediately performed life-saving efforts, but he died on scene. Officers secured the intersection and started to look for the SUV but were unable to find it. The SUV should have recent, significant front-end damage. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe the man was crossing the street in a dimly lit area, not in a crosswalk before being hit by the SUV. The Crash Analysis Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene. Detectives with the CAR Team are also determining whether or not multiple cars struck the man in the roadway. Anyone with information about this crash should call 801-799-3000 and reference case 22-146198. The identity of the man will not be released until next of kin notifications are made. No other information can be released at this time. The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer aided drawing programs. The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies. This crash marks the 19th traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City for 2022. ### |
