Update: Shooting Victim Dies, SLCPD Homicide Detectives Request AssistanceAfter being taken to the hospital in critical condition, the victim died at a local hospital. At this time, due to the on-going investigation, the name and age of the victim is not being released. To assist with this investigation, detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department are requesting assistance from the public. Detectives would like people living along Post Street, 900 West and 1000 West in between 400 South and 600 South to check any home or business surveillance video from approximately 12:45 a.m. until 1 a.m. to see if those video systems captured a car leaving the area at a high rate of speed. As previously released, detectives believe the suspect exited a car and shot multiple times into the victim’s car. After the shooting, the suspect got into the car and left the area. Based on information detectives have learned, this shooting does not appear to be random. Detectives are investigating to determine whether there is a gang-nexus to this shooting. The SLCPD’s Gang Unit and Auto Theft Unit are assisting with this investigation. Detectives would like to speak with anyone who has information about this case. It is highly probable people in our community know who is responsible for this shooting. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 22-176652. A SLCPD PIO provided media updates at 9 a.m. on Saturday September 10, 2022. A copy of the briefing is available on the SLCPD Twitter page. There will be no more media availability on this case on Saturday unless and until there is a significant development. ### |
