SLCPD Celebrates Retirement of Deputy Chief LaMar Ewell and Lieutenant Dave Cracroft

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department celebrated the retirement of Deputy Chief LaMar Ewell and Lieutenant Dave Cracroft, who have a combined 80 years of service with SLCPD.

“Our department is a better place because of Deputy Chief Ewell and Lieutenant Cracroft and their commitment to our city,” said Chief Mike Brown. “Both Deputy Chief Ewell and Lieutenant Cracroft have proudly served this city with great integrity and fidelity. Over their careers, they have protected, helped, and cared for thousands of people. As new police officers, they grew with our city to become distinguished leaders among our police department and within our community. We thank them for their dedication to our department and service to Salt Lake City.”

Deputy Chief Ewell joined the Salt Lake City Police Department in 1982. During his tenure, Deputy Chief Ewell has served in many assignments. Deputy Chief Ewell has supervised officers in Patrol, Detectives, the department’s former Community Action Team, Motorcycle Squad, Watch Command, Special Operations, and Administrative Support.

Chief Brown appointed Ewell as a deputy chief on September 8, 2019. In his most recent role, Deputy Chief Ewell provided overall planning and direction to the SLCPD’s Field Operations I Bureau, which includes the Pioneer Patrol Division and Airport Division.

Lieutenant Cracroft joined the Salt Lake City Police Department in 1982. During his tenure, Lieutenant Cracroft has served in many assignments. Lieutenant Cracroft has worked in patrol, internal affairs, detectives, and Watch Command. In his most recent role, Lieutenant Cracroft served as a Watch Commander for the SLCPD’s Airport Division.

This summer, the Salt Lake City Police Department also celebrated and honored the retirements of:

• Captain Richard Lewis, 31 years of service
• Captain Scott Teerlink, 25 years of service
• Lieutenant Mark Cryder, 26 years of service.

The Salt Lake City Police Department recognizes and thanks Deputy Chief Ewell, Captain Lewis, Captain Teerlink, Lieutenant Cracroft and Lieutenant Cryder for their combined 162 years of service to Salt Lake City.
