Update: One Person Arrested in State Street Shooting, Suspect IdentifiedSALT LAKE CITY — Today, detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad arrested 71-year-old Thomas Leroy Glasker for Attempted Murder and Obstruction of Justice. Glasker is accused of aiding and abetting a 60-year-old man in this case by providing the shooter a firearm and acting as a getaway driver. The alleged shooter, 60-year-old Joseph Marquez, has not been located. The victim in this case is a 38-year-old man. His name is not being released pending next-of-kin-notification. Marquez is described as a Hispanic man, six-feet tall, with a medium build. Marquez should be considered armed and dangerous. This investigation started at 10:05 a.m. on Tuesday October 10, 2022, when SLC911 received a 9-1-1 call about a shooting that just occurred at the Wasatch Inn, located at 1416 South State Street. Officers quickly responded and found the victim in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. SLCPD officers immediately began life-saving efforts. Gold Cross Ambulance and the Salt Lake City Fire Department assisted SLCPD officers with life-saving efforts. Gold Cross Ambulance transported the victim to the hospital in critical condition, where he remains. Based on the preliminary investigation, there was some sort of argument between the victim and Marquez. Witnesses have told detectives they saw Glasker give Marquez the gun. Detectives believe Glasker went to the Wasatch Inn to meet the shooter and saw the fight happening between the two men. Due to the extent of the victim’s injuries, the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad is leading this investigation. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 22-201391. A SLCPD PIO responded to the scene and provided media and community updates. To assist with the apprehension of Marquez, a photo of him is being released. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
