SLCPD Arrest Two People Accused of Illegal Gambling OperationSALT LAKE CITY — Recently, detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit arrested two people, recovered illegal drugs and a loaded firearm as part of an investigation into an illegal gambling operation. This investigation started on October 27, 2022, when detectives learned illegal gambling machines were being used at a business located near 1100 South Glendale Drive. Undercover detectives went to the business and confirmed the existence, and use, of the illegal machines. An employee identified as 27-year-old Jazmine Sosa provided change and paid out winnings. On November 2, 2022, with the assistance of the SLCPD SWAT team, detectives served a court-authorized search warrant at the business. The SWAT Team safely arrested the business owner, 24-year-old Tyler Miller and Sosa. During the search warrant, detectives recovered a loaded gun, four gambling machines, a large amount of cash, illegal drugs, and drug paraphernalia. Detectives booked both Miller and Sosa into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of Intentionally Providing or Offering to Provide Online Gambling, one count of Gambling Promotion, and Possession of a Gambling Device. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Photos of the gambling machines and gun are being released. There is no other information to release at this time. ###
