SLCPD Arrest Man Accused of Two Downtown Business Burglaries

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department announced the arrest of 44-year-old Anthony Jack who is accused of burglarizing two downtown businesses, including office space belonging to the Utah Attorney General’s Office.

As part of this investigation, officers booked Jack into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail. He has since been released from custody on pretrial supervision.

The first investigation started at 10:31 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022, when SLC911 received a call about a man who broke into a law office located at 50 East South Temple Street.

With the assistance of a property manager and a security guard, officers located the suspect, later identified as Jack, and safely took him into custody.

At the time of arrest, officers recovered property taken from the business and illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Officers booked Jack into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of Burglary, one count of Possession of Burglary Tools, one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and one count of Failure to Disclose Identity.

The second investigation started at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022, when the SLCPD received information about an after-the-fact burglary inside office space belonging to the Utah Attorney General’s Office inside the Heber M. Wells Building, located at 160 East 300 South.

An SLCPD patrol officer responded and took a report and detectives with the SLCPD Property Crimes squad conducted investigative follow-up.

Working with the SLCPD Crime Analysis Unit, detectives reviewed forensic evidence and learned Jack unlawfully entered and remained in the Heber M. Wells Building wearing the same clothing hours before later breaking into the office on South Temple Street.

Officers also recovered property stolen from the Attorney General’s Office when they arrested Jack on November 26, 2022.

Detectives believe the burglary at the Heber M. Wells Building happened on Friday, November 25 2022 at approximately 11:30 p.m. and the burglary at the law office on South Temple Street happened on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Detectives have screened charges of one count of Burglary and two counts of Felony Theft with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office related to the Heber M. Wells Building burglary.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

There is no other information available for release. No photos are available.
