SLCPD Officers Arrest Burglary Suspect Linked to Several Cases

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department safely arrested 44-year-old Anthony Jack, the suspect in several crimes in downtown, including the recent burglary of the Utah Attorney General’s Office.

At approximately 10 a.m. on Sunday December 11, 2022, SLC911 dispatched SLCPD officers to a parking garage near 111 East 300 South to investigate a burglary. A witness saw the suspect inside the garage. Officers began searching the garage but did not find the suspect.

A short time later, officers stopped a man near 250 South State Street matching the description of the suspect from the parking garage. A witness reported Jack actively looking into car windows while walking northbound on South State Street.

When contacted by officers, Jack refused to identify himself. Officers later confirmed his identity and learned he had an active arrest warrant from a previous case. During his arrest, officers located methamphetamine in Jack’s pocket, two credit cards stolen during a purse snatching, and a bag of physical keys and electronic keycards belonging to several local businesses and other property that did not belong to Jack. The purse snatching happened on Saturday December 10, 2022.

Officers have requested Jack remain in-custody pending trial because during his arrest Jack said he would be released and would continue to commit similar crimes.

As previously released, Jack is the suspect connected to the burglary of the Utah Attorney General’s Office inside the Heber M. Wells Building, located at 160 East 300 South. Jack is also the suspect linked to the burglary of a law office, located at 50 East South Temple Street. Both burglaries happened Friday, November 25, 2022.

SLCPD officers and detectives will work with the Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office to determine the appropriate charges in this case. Jack is in the process of being booked into the Salt Lake County Meto Jail.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
