SLCPD Detectives Seek Help Identifying Group Involved in Gateway Mall AssaultUpdate – 15:20 hrs 16/December/2022 Detectives have identified many of the suspects in this case because of community tips. This aggravated assault / riot investigation is ongoing. Because at least one person depicted in the photo release is now confirmed to be a minor, the SLCPD has achieved and removed the photo of all suspects from its Twitter page and website. No additional information is being released. *************************************************** SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Robbery and Violent Crimes Squad is requesting the community’s help identifying a group of people for their involvement in the aggravated assault of a store employee at the Gateway Mall. The names and ages of the suspects are not known. This investigation started at 6:28 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2022, when SLC911 received a call about a large group of people, possibly teenagers, actively assaulting an employee at a store in the Gateway Mall located near 100 South Rio Grande Street. While officers were responding, they received information the group involved in the assault ran away. Officers responded to the mall and located a 38-year-old man who had been attacked by the group. Detectives learned an argument between the group and the man led to group surrounding the man and assaulting him, causing multiple injuries. Gold Cross Ambulance took the man to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. During the investigation, officers learned that before the aggravated assault at the Gateway Mall, security from another downtown mall escorted the same group from their property for causing a disturbance. Detectives are investigating this case as an Aggravated Assault with a Riot enhancement because of the large number of people involved. If anyone recognizes any of the people from the group, please call 801-799-3000 and reference case 22-232961. There is no other information available for release. [PHOTO REMOVED AND ARCHIVED] ### |
