SLCPD Investigating Deadly Crash on Redwood RoadSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a crash that killed a 55-year-old man. This investigation started at 7:12 p.m., on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 when SLC911 took a call from someone reporting a crash involving a car and a man walking in the street near 685 North Redwood Road. The Salt Lake City Fire Department responded and found the man in the roadway who died on scene. Responding officers secured the intersection and talked to witnesses. The driver of the car remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The on duty watch commander requested the help of the Crash Analysis Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians. Based on the preliminary information, detectives believe the man was walking westbound in the crosswalk on 700 North against the light when the driver, traveling southbound on Redwood Road struck the man. This crash marks the third traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City for 2023. The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer aided drawing programs. The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies. A PIO responded to the scene and provided the community with regular updates. Photos taken on scene are being released. Media may use these photos with proper credit to the Salt Lake City Police Department. No further information about the man will be released until next of kin notifications are made.
