SLCPD Arrest Man for Burglary, Reminds Community to Secure Homes

SALT LAKE CITY — Over the weekend, officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department arrested a 36-year-old man accused of burglarizing a home.

This investigation began at 9:17 a.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2023, when SLC911 received a call from a homeowner near West Temple Street and MacArthur Avenue reporting a man, later identified as Joshua Bailey, was inside of his home and did not belong there.

While responding, officers learned Bailey took off with the homeowner’s keys.

Officers spotted Bailey nearby and safely took him into custody after leading them on a short foot chase.

Officers booked Bailey into the Salt Lake County Metro jail on one count of Burglary of a Dwelling, Failure to Stop at the Command of a Police Officer, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The SLCPD reminds community members of the following crime prevention tips:

·        Secure all windows and doors whenever you leave, no matter how long you are away

·        Invest in surveillance cameras and/or a security alarm

·        Make your home look occupied

·        Keep your garage door closed and locked

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
