SLCPD Arrest Man, Recover Stolen TruckSALT LAKE CITY — Last night, patrol officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department arrested a 25-year-old man accused of running from police officers and being in possession of a stolen truck. This investigation started at 5:41 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2023 when a SLCPD patrol officer spotted a stolen truck near California Avenue and Fortune Road As the officer followed the truck, the driver, later identified as Pablo Martinez-Calata, jumped out of the truck, and ran off. Additional officers responded to secure the area and start looking for Martinez-Calata. With the help of a SLCPD K-9 Squad and a Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) helicopter, officers found Martinez-Calata hiding in a dumpster and safely took him into custody. Officers booked Martinez-Calata into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Failure to Stop at the Command of Law Enforcement. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The SLCPD reminds community members of the following tips to help prevent vehicle thefts:
The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos. ### |
