SLCPD Arrest Fugitive in Stolen SUV After Ramming Police Car

SALT LAKE CITY — A 31-year-old man is accused of ramming and damaging an unmarked Salt Lake City Police car while driving a stolen SUV.

This investigation began at 5:44 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, when officers found a man, later identified as Trevor English, driving a stolen SUV near 50 North 900 West.

Officers used their emergency lights and tried to stop English. English refused to pull over. Instead, he rammed a police car while trying to get away. The crash prevented English from leaving the parking lot. Additional patrol officers and officers assigned to the Pioneer Division Bike Squad responded and took English into custody after a brief struggle. One officer had minor injuries to his hand.

Officers booked English into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, a felony count of Criminal Mischief, Interfering with an Arresting Officer and outstanding felony warrants.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
