SLCPD Central Bike Squad Recover Gun and Illegal Drugs, Arrest Two Men

SALT LAKE CITY — Recently, officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Central Division Bike Squad arrested two people with warrants and recovered a gun and illegally possessed drugs.

This investigation started at 10:13 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, when one of the bike officers stopped a car for running a red light at 500 South 300 West.

Officers spoke with two men in the car, later identified as 25-year-old Robert Kirkham, the driver, and 49-year-old Oba Tramel, a passenger.

Officers learned both Kirkham and Tramel had active warrants.

Officers safely took Kirkham and Tramel into custody.

While searching Tramel, officers found a gun and methamphetamine on him.

Officers booked Tramel in the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one felony count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, one felony count of Possession of a Firearm by a Restricted Person, and multiple warrants.

Officers booked Kirkham in the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on multiple warrants.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
