SLCPD Investigating Shooting, Teenager KilledSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a shooting that killed a teenage girl. This investigation started at 12:04 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, when SLC911 took a call about a shooting in the 1600-block of West Wright Circle. As officers responded, they learned the victim, a teenage girl, had been shot inside a home and was critically injured. Officers and paramedics responded. Lifesaving efforts were immediately started. The victim died on scene. The shooter left the home before officers arrived. SLCPD patrol officers and specialists with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Police Community Response Team (PCRT) responded to the area to help look for the suspect. Members of the PCRT spotted a person who matched the shooter’s description boarding a bus. PCRT members relayed that information to SLCPD patrol officers who safely arrested the shooter on a Utah Transit Authority bus near 1455 West 400 South. The shooter, who is under the age of 18, is the brother of the victim. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation. Because the shooter left the home and his location and destination unknown, officers worked quickly with the school district to help ensure the safety of several nearby schools. The firearm used in this incident has been recovered. The Salt Lake City Police Department expects the shooter to be booked into the Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention Center. When that occurs, an update will be provided. Several photos from the scene are being released. Media may use these photos with credit to the Salt Lake City Police Department. A SLCPD PIO responded to the scene and provided community members and media updates. No further updates are available at this time. ### |
