SLCPD Investigating Attempted Burglary, Arrest Two Men

SALT LAKE CITY — Recently, officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department arrested a 41-year-old man and a 28-year-old man in connection with an attempted burglary.

This investigation started at 4:21 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, when SLC911 received a call from a business owner near 430 North Wright Brothers Drive reporting two men, later identified as Brandon Johnson and Nickolas Murdock, who were seen leaving the property through a hole in the fence.

Officers spotted the two men in the area who started to run when they saw police.

The men initially ran together but then split up. Officers chased Johnson and eventually took him into custody after a brief struggle.

While searching Johnson, officers recovered heroin and a knife.

Officers booked Johnson into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of Failure to Stop at the Command of Law Enforcement, Obstruction of Justice, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Restricted Person.

A SLCPD K9 Unit tracked Murdock and found him hiding in a nearby dumpster. Officers safely took him into custody.

While searching Murdock, officers recovered a knife. Because of Murdock’s criminal history, he is restricted from possessing any dangerous weapons.

Officers booked Murdock into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on a charge of Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Restricted Person.

No officers were hurt during this incident.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
