SLCPD Homicide Detectives Arrest Woman Accused of Obstructing InvestigationSALT LAKE CITY — Today, detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad arrested 18-year-old Magaly De Jesus Bravo for her alleged involvement in a deadly downtown stabbing. This investigation started at 2:41 a.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023, when SLC911 took a call about a stabbing at 32 East Exchange Place. Officers on scene found 28-year-old Oscar Vera on the ground with a critical stab wound. He later died at the hospital. Detectives believe someone stabbed Vera during a large fight that happened as people left a nearby nightclub. Initially, detectives identified Bravo as a witness in the stabbing. When detectives spoke with Bravo, she is accused of giving a misleading statement to detectives to either hamper or obstruct the investigation Detectives booked Bravo into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one felony count of Obstruction of Justice. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Anyone who has information, including video, photos, or who has seen social media posts related to the stabbing, is still asked to call 801-799-3000 and ask to speak with an officer. No further information on this case is being released. Neither the PIO nor the On-Duty Watch Commander are available for interviews. ### |
