SLCPD Investigating Deadly Stabbing, Suspect in Custody

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a deadly stabbing near the Glendale Golf Course.

This investigation started at 5:39 p.m. on Thursday June 1, 2023, when SLC911 received a call about a stabbing that had just occurred near 1875 South Redwood Road.

Officers got on scene and immediately provided life-saving efforts. Paramedics and the Salt Lake City Fire Department took the victim to the hospital where he later died.

Witnesses told officers the suspect ran from the scene immediately after the stabbing.

Multiple officers, including members from the SLCPD K9 Squad, swarmed the area and started searching for the suspect and any evidence.

At approximately 5:55 p.m., a SLCPD patrol officer, while looking for the suspect, saw a man on the Jordan River trail near 1800 South. The man matched the suspect description given by a witness.

The officer safely arrested the man. The suspect has been taken to the Public Safety Building for questioning.

The motive in this case is still not fully known but detectives believe an argument between the victim and suspect occurred just prior to the stabbing.

SLCPD homicide detectives and personnel from the SLCPD’s Crime Lab responded.

The name and age of the victim will not be released until detectives have confirmed his identity and notified his family.

The medical examiner’s officer will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
