SLCPD Arrest Suspect in Domestic Violence Assault

SALT LAKE CITY — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department safely arrested a 51-year-old man accused of seriously injuring a 51-year-old woman during a domestic violence assault in Rose Park.

This investigation started at 8:07 p.m., on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, when SLC911 got information about a possible domestic violence situation at a home near 700 North Sonata Street.

Officers responded and could hear arguing inside. Officers got the woman to come out and saw serious injuries to her face.

Paramedics took her to the hospital.

Officers tried talking with the suspect, later identified as Thorvald Eldredge, but he refused to exit the home.

Out of an abundance of caution and for community safety, the on-scene incident commander requested the help of SLCPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiators. These highly trained teams provide patrol officers with additional resources.

As the teams arrived, Eldredge came out of the home and officers safely took him into custody.

Officers took Eldredge to the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and booked him on one felony count of Aggravated Assault.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The Salt Lake City Police Department reminds our community of the resources available to support survivors of domestic violence in Utah.
