SLCPD Investigating Car Crash, 3 People DeadSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed three adults. This investigation started at 11:09 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, when SLC911 received a call that a car hit a tree and caught fire near 965 North Beck Street. Officers arrived and found the car fully engulfed in fire. The Salt Lake City Fire Department put out the fire. All three adults died on scene. No other cars or pedestrians were involved. Based on the preliminary investigation, officers believe speed contributed to the crash. Officers are working with the medical examiner’s office to confirm the identity of the three adults who died and to notify their next-of-kin. Their ages and genders are not being released at this time, as that information has not been confirmed. The Crash Analysis Reconstruction (CAR) Team, SLCPD Crime Lab technicians and a SLCPD Public Information Officer (PIO) responded to the scene. This crash marks the 14th traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City for 2023. The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer aided drawing programs. The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies. No photos are being released.
