SLCPD Investigates Hit & Run Crash Involving Stolen Car, Two Injured

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is seeking tips as the department investigates a hit and run crash that injured two people.

This investigation started at 4:02 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023, when a community member called SLC911 and reported a car crash behind an apartment complex near 400 North Pamela Way.

Officers responded and learned a car hit two men as they stood in the apartment complex’s driveway.

The investigation shows the driver of a stolen red Dodge Intrepid hit the two men. The driver and at least two other people, believed to be minors, all ran immediately after the crash.

Paramedics took the men, a 24-year-old and a 34-year-old, to the hospital.

The 24-year-old man had serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The 34-year-old had non-life-threatening injuries.

With the help of a SLCPD drone operator, patrol officers searched the neighborhood for the suspects but did not find anyone.

The Crash Analysis Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed before losing control of the car and hitting the two men and a parked car.

Detectives also believe the occupants who ran away from the crash scene are juveniles.

Anyone with information about this crash should call 801-799-3000 and reference case #23-169345.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer aided drawing programs.

The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.

No photos from the scene are available.
