SLCPD Provides Update on Sugar House Homicide Investigation

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department provided an update on an ongoing homicide investigation.

Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad have identified the person killed as 34-year-old Tayvin Troy Brandon.

This investigation started at 2:17 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2023, when SLC911 received reports of a shooting near 2256 South 1100 East.

The shooter, a 46-year-old man, remained on scene and is cooperating with officers and detectives.

Salt Lake City Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance took Mr. Brandon to the hospital in critical condition. He later died at the hospital.

The shooter has not been arrested and no charges have been filed in this case.

The shooter’s name is not being released.

Homicide detectives will work with the district attorney’s office to evaluate if the use of force was criminal. This process is standard in any death investigation.

This is the 15th homicide in Salt Lake City for 2023.

No further information is available for release.
