SLCPD Investigating Critical Injury Crash, 3 People Hurt SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a critical injury crash along South Temple Street. This investigation started at 3:03 a.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2023, when SLC911 received multiple calls about a car crash near 1007 East South Temple. An off-duty Salt Lake City Police officer in the area heard the crash and responded. The officer found three people injured in the car. Additional SLCPD patrol officers, Salt Lake City Fire, and Gold Cross Ambulance all responded. One of the people in the car, the front passenger, had critical injuries. The driver and a rear passenger both had non-life-threatening injuries. Based on the preliminary investigation, officers believe the driver lost control of the car as it traveled east on South Temple Street. All three people in the car are men in their 20s. The car crashed into a pole at a high rate of speed. Officers believe speed factored into the crash. Impairment is also being investigated. During the investigation, officers closed South Temple in both directions from 900 East to 1100 East. The Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene. The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer aided drawing programs. The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies. A Salt Lake City Police Public Information Officer (PIO) responded to the scene. No further information on this case is being released. Neither the PIO nor the on-duty Watch Commander are available for interviews. Several photos from the scene are being released.
