SLCPD Officers Arrest Category 1 Restricted Person for Firearm, Drug-Related OffensesSALT LAKE CITY — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department have arrested a 24-year-old woman who is accused of being a Category 1 restricted person in possession of a stolen firearm, illegal drugs, and drug paraphernalia. This investigation started at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, when Salt Lake City Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a car driven by Cassidy James Arrington at 50 East 1300 South. During the investigation, officers determined Arrington had outstanding felony warrants. Officers placed Arrington into custody. Officers found Arrington in possession of a stolen firearm – taken during a vehicle burglary, methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Arrington is a Category 1 restricted person and is prohibited from being in possession of a firearm. Officers booked Arrington into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of being in possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, possession of a controlled substances, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and theft of a firearm. The Salt Lake City Police Department is committed to confiscating illegal drugs and firearms. Doing so helps promote the overall safety of the city. Stolen firearms have been linked to violent crimes including drug-related offenses, robberies, assaults, and shootings. By taking proactive steps to removing illegal drugs and firearms from our community, the Salt Lake City Police Department works with its law enforcement partners to disrupt criminal organizations. As of November 27, 2023, violent crime is down 11.5%, property crime is down 13.9%, and overall crime is down 13.7% city-wide. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos. No photos from this case are available for release. ### |
