SLCPD Investigate Shooting, Two Men Arrested
SALT LAKE CITY — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department have arrested two men, both 27-years-old, for their alleged involvement in a shooting that left a 44-year-old man with a non-life-threatening injury. This investigation started at 7:42 pm Monday, December 4, 2023 when SLC911 received several 9-1-1 calls about neighbors hearing gunshots near 1400 West 800 South. During the investigation, officers found a man inside a car with a shooting-related injury. The man told officers two men in a SUV chased him and then started shooting at him. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. The victim suffered a non-life-threatening injury from a bullet ricochet. Paramedics treated and released the man on scene. Officers developed information leading them to the home of Carlos Navarro and Raul Navarro near 1400 West and Arapahoe Avenue. Carlos and Raul are brothers. Pursuant to a court-authorized search warrant and with the help of the SLCPD SWAT team, officers safely took both men into custody. During a search of the home, officers found two firearms, marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms and drug paraphernalia. Officers booked both suspects into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and charged them with three counts of felony discharge of a firearm and aggravated assault. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos. ### |
