SLCPD Officers Recover Drugs, Gun, Supply of Weapons

SALT LAKE CITY — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Central Patrol Division have recovered a gun, several axes, swords, knives, ammunition, drugs, and drug paraphernalia.

This investigation started at 3:21 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023, when SLC911 received a call about a suspicious circumstance near 600 West North Temple.

Officers developed a plan to have 20-year-old Joshua Friedman exit his apartment safely and surrender.

Officers conducted a safety check of the apartment. Officers did not find anyone else inside the apartment.

During a court-authorized search warrant, officers seized a firearm, several axes, swords, knives, drug paraphernalia, and ammunition inside Friedman’s apartment.

The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Crime Lab Unit responded to process the scene.

Officers have booked Friedman into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of use or possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a controlled substance, violating the state’s firearm transaction law, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, altering markings on a firearm, and possession of marijuana or spice.

No photos are available for release.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
