SLCPD Officers Arrest Non-Compliant Sex Offender, Recover Drugs and Multiple Knives

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police Department officers assigned to the Geraldine E. King Homeless Resource Center arrested a 56-year-old man accused of being a non-compliant sex offender and illegally possessing drugs and knives.

This investigation started at 11:23 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, when officers stopped a car driven by Jon Hall near 175 East 800 South. Officers had information that led them to believe Hall violated terms of the sex offender registry.

Officers safely took Hall into custody and recovered drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine, multiple blue M30 pills suspected of containing fentanyl, and 18 different knives.

Hall is a convicted felon and restricted from possessing any weapons.

Officers booked Hall into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on the following charges: 18 counts of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, sex offender registry violation, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

Two photos taken at the scene are being released. Media may use these photos with credit to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
