SLCPD Detectives Arrest Third Person Involved in January HomicideSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad have arrested a 20-year-old man who is accused of firing multiple rounds during a shooting in the Central City neighborhood. This is the third arrest connected to this homicide investigation. On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, detectives booked Isidore Junior Barrera into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on 18 counts of felony discharge of a firearm. This investigation started at 2:37 a.m., on Sunday, January 14, 2024, when SLC911 received several calls about a shooting near 350 East 800 South. Officers found the victim, 18-year-old Gabriel Vigil, on the ground with at least one gunshot wound. Vigil died on scene. Officers, detectives, and crime lab technicians found gunfire damage to a house, fence, and multiple parked cars. While searching the neighborhood after the shooting, officers found a gun. Detectives have determined Barrera, Vigil, and two other people, were all shooters during this incident. During the shooting, detectives believe a round fired by one of the three other shooters hit and killed Vigil. On Friday, February 2, 2024, homicide detectives arrested a 16-year-old juvenile. He is accused of being one of the four shooters. Because of the suspect’s age, no additional information about him is being released. Detectives are working to safely locate and take the fourth shooter into custody. On Sunday, January 14, 2024, detectives booked 23-year-old Tommi Gallegos into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail. She is charged with obstructing the investigation. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call 801-799-3000 or submit an anonymous tip using the City Protect App. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
