Update: SLCPD Identifies Two Men Killed in Workplace ShootingSALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department identified the two men involved in a workplace shooting that occurred on Sunday, March 3, 2024. The first man killed is identified as 61-year-old Hay Ly. The shooter is identified as 56-year-old Miller Bin. Based on the preliminary information, detectives believe Bin, an employee of the business, shot Ly inside. After the initial shooting, Bin shot and killed himself in a parking lot on the company’s property. As previously released, officers found a firearm near Bin’s body. Officers conducted a protective sweep of the entire building to ensure there were no additional victims. Workplace violence can include physical, verbal, and psychological abuse. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health defines workplace violence as “an act or threat of violence on a spectrum that ranges from verbal abuse to physical and even lethal assault towards persons at work or on duty.” The company where this shooting occurred is cooperating with the investigation. This is the third homicide in Salt Lake City for 2024. Detectives are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting.
