SLCPD Investigating Shooting in Liberty Wells Neighborhood

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is investigating a shooting in the Liberty Wells neighborhood.

This investigation started at 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024, when SLC911 received calls about a shooting that had just occurred near 200 East Kensington Avenue. Officers arrived, secured the area, and began looking for any victims, suspects, and evidence.

Officers did not find any patients on scene but did identify a small amount of blood on the ground.

While searching the neighborhood, a homeowner reported finding a firearm on her property near 1450 South Roberta Street. Officers secured the firearm, and the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Crime Lab Unit responded to process and collect the gun.

As the on-scene investigation concluded, officers received information from a person claiming to be with the injured party. The individual making the report described the injury as a “graze wound,” indicated that medical attention was not required, and declined to provide further details about themselves or the injured person.

The person injured, or anyone else involved, is asked to call Salt Lake City Police directly.

Based on preliminary information and evidence found at the scene, officers suspect the shooting may have stemmed from a drug deal.

Officers will continue to investigate this incident and will refer the case to SLCPD detectives.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to call 801-799-3000.
