SLCPD Gang Unit Investigating State Street Shooting, 2 People InjuredSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a shooting in downtown near State Street and Exchange Place that injured two people. This investigation started around 12:55 a.m. on August 10, 2024, when officers, while on an unrelated call, heard multiple gunshots being fired to the south of their location. The officers were initially investigating a fight near 320 South State Street. After hearing the gunshots, the officers immediately ran to the south and encountered several people running toward them. Officers determined the shooting happened near State Street and Exchange Place. During the investigation, officers found two patients with gunshot wounds: a man and a 24-year-old woman. Officers found the man in a nearby parking lot and the woman in a nearby business on Exchange Place. Officers performed lifesaving aid on both patients. Paramedics took both patients to the hospital. The man, whose age is not known right now, is in critical condition. The 24-year-old woman is stable; her injuries are not considered life-threatening. While on scene, officers had to divert their attention and request additional patrol officers and troopers from the Utah Highway Patrol to help stabilize the scene after several small fights broke out. The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit is leading the investigation. No arrests have been made. There is no suspect information for release at this time. Anyone with information on this case, including those with photos or video, is asked to call 801-799-3000 or submit an anonymous tip using the CityProtect App and reference case number 24-182377.
