SLCPD Investigating Deadly Motorcycle Crash on North Temple Street in Capitol Hills NeighborhoodSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a deadly motorcycle crash in the Capitol Hills neighborhood that killed a 28-year-old man. This investigation started at 3:33 a.m. when SLC911 received information about a crash involving a motorcycle on the UTA TRAX lines near the Guadalupe TRAX station. Firefighters and SLCPD officers arrived on scene and found a man pinned under his motorcycle with critical injuries. The man died on scene. Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the man misidentified the TRAX line as the roadway, drove down the middle of the rails, and crashed into the support rails at a high rate of speed. No UTA TRAX trains were involved in this incident. The Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene. The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Unit, part of a multi-jurisdictional task force, specializes in investigating crashes with severe injuries or death in the Salt Lake Valley. SLCPD CAR detectives are highly trained in areas such as collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, and evidence collection. They meticulously map crash scenes, analyze vehicle and occupant movement, and manage cases from evidence collection to prosecution. Their work helps ensures thorough and accurate investigations, collaborating with other regional law enforcement agencies to handle the most serious crashes effectively.
