SLCPD Investigating Deadly Crash in Sugar House NeighborhoodSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a crash that killed a 62-year-old man. This investigation started at 11:25 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2024, when SLC911 received information about a crash at 900 East Blaine Avenue. Officers and firefighters with the Salt Lake City Fire Department arrived and found the man dead. Based on the preliminary investigation, the man crashed his car into an unoccupied parked car. No other injuries were reported. The specific cause of the crash and death are unknown. However, detectives are investigating whether a medical episode may have occurred before the crash. This crash marks the 7th traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City for 2024. The Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene. The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Unit, part of a multi-jurisdictional task force, specializes in investigating crashes with severe injuries or death in the Salt Lake Valley. SLCPD CAR detectives are highly trained in areas such as collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, and evidence collection. They meticulously map crash scenes, analyze vehicle and occupant movement, and manage cases from evidence collection to prosecution.
